DILLON, South Carolina. A son is born to Anne Pickens Collins and Joel Wyman Collins, at their home.

Who would have guessed that this bouncing baby boy would some day become a chemical engineer, an orthodontist and a genuine aficionado of creativity? And what a ride his life is turning out to be. Collins is also, to hit other highlights, a devoted family man, Presbyterian elder, novelist, song writer, golfer, inventor, teacher, and capitalist. He and wife Shirley live in Durham, NC, and also spend time in Myrtle Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
